COVENTRY BEARS LEGACY BIKE RIDE
Hull to Coventry (150 miles) - City of Culture 2017 to City of Culture 2021, September 5th/6th 2020
So 2020 hasn’t turned out the way anyone planned! Undeterred by the cancellation of the 2020 season of the Betfred League One – current Bears players want to bring some positivity to the local community of Coventry for 2021.
Coventry Bears and Bears in the Community want the year the Rugby League World Cup comes to Coventry (2021) to be the biggest year yet! It’s not just about the amazing game that will be held in Coventry on 29th October (Australia v Scotland) at the Ricoh Arena - Coventry Bears want a lasting legacy in our city from the RL World Cup.
The ambition for 2021 is to help create new community satellite clubs in different areas of the City to engage more children and the local community in sport of rugby league. The Bears have a great history of engagement in more deprived areas of the city and this is where we want to base new satellite clubs. To realise the ambition of new community satellite clubs, we need your support! The target is to not only set up, but to make the new clubs sustainable for many years to come with good quality coaching and the recruitment and training of excellent new volunteers. This is a really big project and we have big plans in the pipeline…To kick start the funding for the coaching to realise this ambitious project, Coventry Bears first team players are undertaking a bike ride from Hull to Coventry which will be undertaken over 2 days this September. From 2017’s City of Culture, Hull, to 2021's City of Culture, Coventry. The bike ride covers over 150 miles and will be a mammoth challenge for over 20 players in Coventry Bears current squad.
So how can you help? Sponsor our squad with an individual donation is the simplest thing to do. This can be done online via this link. But you could also sponsor our squad training T-shirt’s which the players will train in and wear on the 150 mile cycle. To do this for your business (or name) donate £100+ and you will get your name on the players’ T-shirt's. This will also include social media mentions during bike ride and associated press coverage. Please get in touch with Alan Robinson for more info on the email below.
Finally, do you know a business who could provide some support for the squad across the two day challenge with products or food & drinks on the way or on arrival in Coventry? If so, please get in touch with
