The Coventry Bears are delighted to announce that the vastly experienced coach Richard Tunningley will join the clubs coaching team for the 2016 season.
Tunningley, who has headed up professional academies at Bradford Bulls and Castleford Tigers, will take on the role of assistant coach with the club.
With his experience as a player performance manager at Castleford, Bradford and Wakefield Wildcats Tunningley will bring a lot of knowledge to the management team. Something Head Coach Tom Tsang remarked on; "It's brilliant news for the club that Rich has decided to join the coaching team here at the Bears. He has a wealth of experience in the professional game in various coaching roles and understands both performance and development environments. He has been a sounding board for me over the last 12 months and to have him join the club in an official capacity is massive."
Unfortunately Martyn Rothwell (assistant coach for the 2014/ 15 season) has had to leave the club due to personal commitments elsewhere. Tsang took the time to Thank Martyn for his support; "I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Martyn for all his hard work over the last twelve months. He brought a lot to the club and has played a big part in getting us to where we are now. But being able to bring in someone of Richard's calibre as his replacement is exciting."
Speaking on his appointing Tunningley said: "Coventry have made an excellent start to their life as a professional club and I am really excited at the prospect of working with everyone at the club and it is a fantastic opportunity to help further develop the game in the Midlands and I jumped at the chance."
"They are a forward thinking club, run by ambitious people and I am totally committed to helping them achieve the clubs ambitions. I am really looking forward to the start of pre season and getting to work alongside Tom Tsang, the other coaching staff and all the squad. I really believe there are exiting times ahead for Coventry Bears and cannot wait to get started and be a part of another great chapter in the clubs history."
