WORKINGTON TOWN GAME POSTPONED

Workington Town v Coventry Bears Postponed

Betfred League 1 update – July 8

The Betfred League 1 fixture between Workington Town and Coventry Bears which was scheduled for this Sunday (July 11) has been postponed, following a number of positive Covid-19 tests in the Workington squad.

With five confirmed positive tests and an additional three players required to isolate as close contacts, Workington meet the threshold of seven senior players unavailable as a result of Covid-19 for a match to be postponed.

The sport’s Multiple Cases Group have advised that the club should suspend training until at least Sunday, with further testing required before a resumption.

This is the second League 1 match to be postponed this season, after Coventry’s home game against Keighley Cougars scheduled for June 20 was postponed following Covid-19 issues at Keighley.

That game has been rescheduled for next Friday (July 16), and the RFL will work with the Workington and Coventry clubs on a possible rearrangement of their fixture – although as things stand, there are no available weekend dates between now and the end of the regular season in September, and it was agreed before the start of the season that the Betfred League 1 table will be determined by win points percentage to allow for the possibility of not all fixtures being fulfilled.

Alan Robinson commented:
“It’s disappointing for us to deal with having a second postponement for the club this season but we will follow the procedures laid out by the RFL and now focus on next Fridays re-scheduled match at home to Keighley Cougars”
