Bears join rugby league community in expressing sadness following death of Keighley player Danny Jones

Coventry Bears have joined the rugby league community in expressing messages of condolence following the death of Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones.

Danny, was 29, and collapsed after being replaced early in the League One match against London Skolars on Sunday.

He suffered a suspected cardiac arrest and was treated by the match doctor and paramedics at the ground before being taken to the Royal Free Hospital.

Despite extensive efforts to resuscitate him, he died at the hospital.

Since Sunday people across the rugby league world have been donating to support Danny’s family through the RFL’s Benevolent fund with over £40,000 raised in the past two days.

Coventry Bears Managing Director Alan Robinson said:

‘We have all been deeply saddened by Danny’s passing and will support Keighley Cougars staff, players and Danny’s family in any way we can in the light of our next scheduled fixture with the Cougars. It has been great to see the rugby league community rallying together at this time and it is a testament to the sport that there has been such as big reaction to support Danny’s family’

Danny leaves behind a young wife and 5 month old twins and we would urge everyone to give generously.
