We are delighted to sign Michael Russell
We are very pleased to announce the signing of utility back Michael Russell who joins us from the Irish domestic competition.
Russell began his rugby league in Sydney where he spent his formative years. After moving to Dublin aged 12 he took up rugby union where he excelled at club level and piqued interest from many professional academies.
His decision to stay at his local club lead him back to league where he quickly became one to watch on the Irish domestic scene. He made his international debut for Ireland A aged 17 and has been a part of the the national squad since.
Russell has been capped at under 19, A and senior level for Ireland.
He has learnt his trade under Bears Conor Kelly who has known him since he first moved to Ireland and coached him at club level.
Tom Tsang commented on the new signing:
I’m really pleased to be able to confirm Mikey has joined the squad for 2017. He has been on our radar for a while now having been a standout in the Irish domestic representative side for a number of years and was part of the Irish World Cup qualifying campaign this Autumn. He is a utility player who is equally at home in the hooker, halfback and fullback positions, with great ball skills, acceleration and a strong work ethic. Having met with Mikey and discussed the season with him, I am positive he will fit straight into the squad and I hope he can play a big role in our success in 2017.
