We are delighted to announce the capture of former young Wigan Warriors star Kieran Sherratt.

Tom Tsang commented:

Kieran is our first new signing for 2017 and one that I am particularly excited about. He is a product of the Wigan Warriors academy, having won the Super League u19s championship with them in 2015. Since then he has spent a year in Australia, playing for former Coventry Bears co-captain, Luke Srama, at the Tumut Blues in New South Wales. He has returned to the UK to take up a Sports Scholarship and place at Coventry University studying on their renowned Sports Management degree course. This combined with his playing contract could see him in a Bears shirt for a number of years. He can play a number of positions in the pack, including backrow and loose forward, and adds to what is already shaping up to be a formidable middle unit for us in 2017.

Kieran said:

I believe Coventry offered great opportunities to develop both as a rugby league player and academically through the university, after spending some time down in Coventry and meeting some of the players the team ethic and professionalism shone through. The work which is being done throughout the community was also something which I wanted to part of to raise the profile of the game and develop promising talent. The course at the university was rated as one of the best in the country and offered great opportunities. With the talent in the team and coaching staff I believe we can have a successful year at the Bears, with hopefully more to come.
