Bears Galvanised for Hemel showdown
Bears face Hemel Stags this week back on home ground
Jet-setting Coventry Bears are back from their trip to Canada where they put up a good fight against League 1 super club Toronto Wolfpack.
They now face a different task as they take on bottom club Hemel Stags, but it is a crucial game for both sides.
The Bears have shown great promise and played some entertaining rugby, but this hasn’t translated into wins, with only one victory so far in the league against Oxford. However, they have used the Canada trip to build and develop as a team, and are full of confidence.
Hemel have had a poor season, they are completely reliant on players not based locally and crowds have slumped. Their only bright spot this season was a victory in a warm up game……….against Coventry Bears!
So they will be determined to repeat that feat on Sunday, while the Bears with their creative attacking play will have noted that their opponents defence has let in an average of over 40 points per game this season.
Bears Coach Tom Tsang summed up the mood in the Bears camp;
‘The lads are very tired right now after an exhausting game inToronto followed by thorough post match celebrations of our efforts.
But the whole experience has really brought the team together and everyone is now very positive for the rest of the season.
We now face Hemel followed by South Wales who are both below us in the league. Hemel beat us in preseason and the match will be even tougher given the amount of travelling this week. But it’s essential we use this trip as a spring board to getting some wins on the board and its vital we are beating those teams around us on the league table. Now is the time to build some momentum as we approach the mid-season split in the competition.’
