BEARS SIGN LIAM WELHAM
We are very pleased to secure the signature of experienced centre or back row forward, Liam Welham.
Liam started his professional career at Hull KR which saw him make him debut before the age of 17. He then signed at Featherstone Rovers from 2010-2012 winning the championship and grand final in 2012. He then went to Hunslet for 2 seasons before joining Paul Cooke at Doncaster who he worked with previously. He stayed there 5 seasons winning a host of trophies with the Dons. Due to work and family commitments Liam then put himself into semi-retirement and started coaching/playing for the team where it started out, Amateur club Myton Warriors in Hull.
Recently his work schedule has changed which gave him the opportunity to commit again.
Liam commented:
“A few of my work colleagues play for Coventry and convinced me to return and chose the Bears. Within one training session I could see the way the club is heading and the facilities they have are second to none. The ambition of the owner Alan Robinson along with Rich Squires and the staff is clear to be seen and the passion and positivity around the club infectious. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and hopefully my experience will add something more to that”
Bears Alan Robinson commented:
“Liams experience speaks for itself and bringing a player of his calibre into our environment is really positive on a number of levels. He can not only add a positional threat on the field but also fits in perfectly with the group which allows us to reinforce everything we are doing. He is also a very strong character and someone who will drive standards which is exactly what we need to keep doing”
