DAVE SCOTT SIGNS AS PLAYER/COACH
DAVE SCOTT SIGNs FOR THE BEARS
We are extremely delighted to make a major announcement that Dave Scott will be joining the Bears from Championship side Batley Bulldogs and will be taking up a player/coach role alongside newly appointed Head coach Rich Squires.
Alan Robinson Bears Director said; “I am delighted to make this announcement and welcome Dave to the Bears. He brings great experience both on and off the field in a key playing position and will allow us to set our standards to a higher level for next season. I know Dave had a number of major Championship clubs chasing his signature so to be able to bring him to us is a real coup. The fact Dave is a current Scotland International only adds to his signing and I know he can’t wait to apply himself in every capacity and assist us in growing a new era and legacy for 2021 and the future”
Dave Scott commented on his new appointment; “I am delighted to be joining Coventry Bears in both a playing and coaching capacity for the 2021 season. I certainly didn’t expect to be undertaking a coaching role at this stage in my career. I had the option to stay in Championship, but these opportunities don’t come along too often so I couldn’t turn it down as it may never present itself again. Although I have previous coaching experience at community, amateur and university level, this will be my first coaching exploit in the professional game and I’m really excited to get stuck in and face the challenges which it will entail. I hope that the younger generation of Coventry players will benefit from my on-field experiences, playing with some quality players during World Cup and Four Nations competitions, as well as my off-field knowledge from having a PhD in sport science.
Alan Robinson and Rich Squires have been really enthusiastic and accommodating to get me on board. I think Coventry is a unique club in the way that it is run, which really impressed me. I know Rich well and have had the pleasure to work with him previously. He’s a great bloke and a really good coach with some great ideas, so I’m really excited to be striking up a partnership with him. We are on the same wavelength and know how each other work.
I hope that we will be able to drive the club forward in the right direction and be able to contribute towards the development of the game within Coventry and Warwickshire.
It’s an extremely exciting time for Coventry after being awarded City of Culture and also hosting the Rugby League World Cup group stage fixture between Scotland and Australia at the Ricoh Arena. I think this is a great opportunity to put Coventry on the map and promote the game within the city.“
Stay tuned for more exciting signings in coming weeks.
