Bears v Cougars Postponed this weekend

CLUB STATEMENT

The Betfred League 1 fixture between Coventry Bears and Keighley Cougars which was scheduled for Sunday (June 20) has been postponed at Keighley’s request, under the game’s Covid-19 Protocols.

Two of Keighley’s senior squad have positive Covid-19 results, and another nine of their players are also required to isolate as close contacts, meaning they meet the threshold of a minimum of seven players ruled out as a result of Covid-19 - allowing them to request the postponement.

The clubs will now liaise with the RFL on a possible rearrangement of the match later in the summer.

Coventry Bears Alan Robinson said: “We are all very disappointed and disheartened by the postponement but safety comes first. We will continue to liase with the RFL around a solution and hope players and staff at Keighley stay safe and do not have any further problems”

Sadly this has also meant that we cannot host Oxford Cavaliers for a Junior fixture as referees and coaches will now not be available. We appreciate all stakeholders understanding in these difficult circumstances.
