Summer Anniversary Event: Coventry Bears v Bradford Bulls
Coventry Bears launch ‘Bulls Summer Anniversary Event’
Coventry Bears are already making preparations for the visit of Bradford Bulls on 30th June, with one question on everyone’s mind;
‘Are the Bradford Bulls bigger than Leeds Rhinos?’
Fans of both West Yorkshire clubs will have their opinions, but the Bears have good reason to ask this.
Despite not having the best of League seasons, the Coventry side recorded its highest ever attendance of 1,294 in a pre-season friendly against Leeds Rhinos on a cold Friday night in January.
‘That attendance was amazing, we normally average about 300, a couple of hundred came down from Leeds, plus there were a lot of locally based Rhinos fans, but it really caught the local imagination too’ said Bears CEO Alan Robinson.
And now, with former Super League Bulls currently in League 1, preparations are in hand to make this not just a game but a perfect Summers day event.
A tag-rugby tournament is planned for before the match, Craft Beers will be on sale outside, corporate hospitality is available, and there’s special musical entertainment already lined up for a carnival-like atmosphere.
‘Yes, we want as many Bulls fans to come down as possible and we will be doing all we can to welcome them not just to our club but our City of Culture. We will also be reaching out across the Midlands to get people along to see live Rugby League, the potential here is still untapped’ he added.
With Bulls travelling army of support already setting League 1 records, a large crowd and good atmosphere are almost a given, but the Bears see this as a showcase for the game in the Midlands, where they hope to convert some of the first-time, and occasional visitors into regular fans.
Bradford Bulls fans can purchase tickets through usual Bulls channels while general and hospitality tickets can also be purchased through Coventry Bears Eventbrite portal by
