Richard Squires has been formally named as Head Coach for the 2021 SEASON

We are very pleased to announce that current First team coach Rich Squires has been formally named as Head Coach of the club for 2021.

Over the last two years Rich has spent time with the first team as an assistant and then stepped up to coach the first team for 2020 after Tom Tsang moved to London Broncos as assistant coach of the Championship side.

Alan Robinson commented: “This was a natural transition for Rich who has shown some fantastic leadership over the past months working with the squad in lockdown and working closely with me to prepare a new squad for next season. It has been challenging times for the sport but his rapport with the players along with a bright and positive outlook to moving the club forward made this an easy decision for me to make. Promoting a coach from within means we can keep building on our strong culture and this is more important than ever in 2021 as we seek more long term stability and mount a challenge against other clubs in Betfred League One.”

Rich said: 

“I look forward to, and am excited by, the challenges ahead in terms of making this club a serious competitor within League 1. The club has a long and proud history  in rugby league and is a club founded on strong work ethics and family values.

It’s something I have always wanted to do and it’s a great opportunity for me. Working with lads last year gave me my first taste of league 1 coaching and I’m now looking forward to building a team with Alan that can continue to turn some heads and compete week in week out. 

For me it allows me to continue my coaching development, with me being the youngest coach in the competition it allows me to compete against some guys who have been at the top of the game and I am excited for that challenge.”
