Whitehaven Preview / by Bears Media

Bears last trip of the season, and it's a long one!

Whitehaven RLFC v Coventry Bears

Sunday, The Recreation Ground Whitehaven, Cumbria. Match Preview.

The season is drawing to a close, with just two games remaining and the Bears final away trip takes place this Sunday, when they head up the M6, and across the Lake District to the Cumbrian Heartlands of the game.

Whitehaven are still in with a good chance of being in the promotion play offs, lying in seventh place with 30 points and a scoring difference of +187.

(Next week's home opponents are just beneath them on the same points but a difference of +185, so Coventry Bears will have a big say in the final placings!)

So, can the Bears bounce back after last week's home loss against North Wales Crusaders?

It's a tough ask, because Whitehaven beat the Bears 12-44 at the Butts Park Arena back in April, and coincidentally 44-12 was the score in the fixture at the Recreation Ground last season, so there's some consistency there!

'Haven have won their last two games, beating close rivals Hunslet last week 46-10, having beaten our rivals Hemel Stags 13-50 away from home the weekend before.

Before that they had a string of three losses against Doncaster, Bradford and Oldham.

This implies that their league position is an accurate one, not amongst the big boys of League 1 but still very much a cut above the new teams such as ourselves.

So, it won't be an easy trip but fingers crossed for the lads before they return for their last home game, it would be good to get another win against an established Northern team to round off a memorable seasonal.
