Workington Town Preview
Match Preview
Coventry Bears v Workington Town RLFC
This Sunday, Coventry Bears will be entertaining Workington Town RLFC at the Butts Park Arena in a Kingstone Press League 1 fixture.
Workington will be making the long trip down from Cumbria looking to improve on the form which has seen only one win in the last four games.
Workington were relegated from the Championship last season, a bitter blow for a club which hashad its share of highs and lows since it was founded as a semi-professional club in 1944.
They had been expected to be amongst the favourites for promotion this year, but Toronto are taking the league by storm, with their Cumbrian rivals Barrow and Whitehavendoing their utmost to keep up.
Indeed, Workington are in sixth place on the same number of points as Keighley, Hunslet and Newcastle.
Bears meanwhile suffered a real disappointment last week losing out to South Wales Ironmen away from home in the last minute.
Morale in the Bears camp remains high and a good crowd is expected on Sunday, bolstered by the number of youngsters taking part in the Rugby League Development Day’s activities before the game.
The Bears are still the newest English club in the professional Rugby League set up, and while they have proved themselves able to beat other new clubs, have yet to beat a traditional team from the North of England.
So, facing a team that hasn’t lived upto expectations and whowill not be in the best state after three and a half hours on the M6, could the Bears reach another landmark in their development in front of a partisan Coventry side on Sunday?
