York Match Preview
York to be a stern test for the Bears
Sunday sees Coventry Bears on their travels once again as they head up the M1 to York to face York City Knights, whose troubles in close season appear to have receded.
After almost going out of business due to ground issues and disputes, York are turning in some good results, beating Doncaster and putting over fifty past the Bears arch rivals Gloucester All Golds last week.
York’s support is strong and vocal and could be quite intimidating for Tom Tsang’s men.
This follows last Sunday’s game against Keighley Cougars which saw the Bears score first, regain the lead after losing it, be more than a match for their more experienced opponents for long spells and go on to outscore the Cougars in the second half. Harry Chapman scored twice and Mikey Russell got his first hat trick, but still the Bears lost.
Head Coach Tom Tsang summed up that game and looked ahead to this week’s clash;
'frustrating; I felt for 65 minutes of the game we were as good as, and at times much better than, Keighley, but while our level of performance 'peaked and troughed', the Cougars just maintained a consistent level of play and they really made us pay for a few back to back errors in the second quarter.
But we now have a chance to improve things against Yorkon Sunday…….’
Nobody believes this trip will be easy, but will be good practice for the Bears before the showdown with their local rivals Gloucester All Golds the following weekend.
