Bears Launch New Community Arm
Coventry Bears this week launched a new development arm of the club with the introduction of Bears in the Community.
Bears in the Community is a Community Interest Company whose remit is to develop the sport of Rugby League in Coventry and Warwickshire.
As part of its work Bears in the Community will undertake a number of projects to help grow the game in the area, while also developing new talent.
One of the major projects which have been undertaken is the Sky Try Project which is operated in conjunction with Sky and the Rugby Football league. As part of this project Bears in the Community will be delivering Rugby League sessions in 3 secondary schools and 9 primary schools.
Also part of the project will be the foundation of 3 satellite clubs around Coventry which will allow young players to take part in weekly training sessions and local competition.
Bears Juniors
Bears in the Community will also be operating the Coventry Bears Junior section.
At present we are aiming to run at under 13 (yr 7/8) and under 15 (yr 9/10) age groups.
The Bears would like to invite players and parents who wish to become involved with the Junior club to an information evening which will be held for anyone who has been or who wishes to get involved with these Bears Junior sides on Thursday 30th of April at the Xcel Centre at 6pm.
Speaking on the launch of the Bears in the Community, Community Manager Conor Kelly commented “This is an excellent development for the Coventry Bears and the local community also. We are looking forward to working with the schools in Coventry and Warwickshire as well as the junior players who have previously been involved with the Bears.”
