Coventry university seek to recruit new rugby league scholars

Coventry University are seeking to recruit new players through their highly successful Sports Scholarship scheme. The scheme which has been running for a number of years has gained new found popularity since the Bears entered League One as there is now a clear pathway to semi professional Rugby League through the scheme.

Coventry Bears managing director Alan Robinson commented:

'As a former student myself at Coventry University I want to keep a firm pathway from Student Rugby League to the Bears. We have heavily recruited through the SRL for our squad in our first year in League one with a number of players from Coventry, Loughborough, Leeds Beckett and indeed Warwick University. The SRL is a hotbed of talent and one which we like to keep a close eye on. I coach on the Coventry University programme and it allows me to have a direct input.'

The University is now actively recruiting players for 2015/16 and there is no reason why a new player straight from College or Sixth form could achieve a scholarship and indeed a contract with the Bears for next season. The scheme is also open to more mature students who may have played a high level of sport and are seeking new qualifications such as a Masters.

Potential Scholars must qualify for a course at the University before having the opportunity to be considered for a scholarship. The University was voted modern University of the year in 2015 and has a broad range of courses available.
